Yesterday I talked about UNIVERSAL YARN Linear, the yarn I chose for knitting my next knitting project in the Sketch colorway, and I also knitted a swatch to get a feel for the yarn.
Today, I’ll decide on a pattern: a pullover, a vest, or a cardigan. There are plenty of patterns, but it’s best to find one written for this yarn to avoid modifying it.
After browsing through plenty of free patterns, I came across the Cozy Atlas Cardigan. Remember, I wanted a warm, cozy garment. Even the pattern’s name tells me this is the one.

I got the pattern and started reading. I already had my swatch done; all I had to do was wash it, block it, and measure it, as the pattern gives the gauge after blocking.
I started gathering the supplies:
- KNITPRO Karbonz circular needles US Size 5 (3.75 mm) 32”
- KNITPRO Karbonz circular needles US Size 3 (3.25 mm) 32”
- KNITPRO Mindful stitch markers,
- 1” buttons (8 pieces)
- a darning needle
I will knit the smaller circular cuffs using the magic loop method on the long circular needles, so the 32” needles will work for me.
I try to stay organized by placing all my yarn, the pattern, and my notions in my new project bag, the VIVACE Tote. It’s roomy enough for all my supplies, it has plenty of pockets and a special pocket for knitting (or crochet) needles. This way, I won’t search the whole house every time I need a new ball of yarn or some stitch markers.

I measured my blocked swatch and chose the size I’ll knit, medium. I’m ready to start knitting the cardigan.
It starts with the saddle shoulders, two of them knitted in garter stitch, so here I go.
