Yesterday, I shared my experience of joining a new ball of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick yarn using the braided method. Although it was a quick knit, it wasn’t as fast as I expected. As the blanket grew, I had to support it on my lap. Despite the KNITTER’S PRIDE Mindful Needles doing an excellent job, I noticed that my knitting was slowing down, most likely due to the bubble stitch.
The Bubble Stitch creates a beautiful texture to this blanket.
I knitted it until the size reached the desired length of 60”, finishing with a grey bubble stripe to mirror the cast-on end.
I did bind off and took a deep breath. Now I must make the knitted cast on edge.
The Bubble Trouble Throw pattern instructions for the Border are as follows:
From RS working from left to right and placing sts on left needle, pick up and k1 st in each of the last 3 sts along top right corner of bind off edge so that the farthest right st is at tip of left needle; k1, k2tog –you will have 2 sts on right needle.
Notes: You will continue to pick up sts as you knit the border. To ensure that sts are picked up evenly, pick up 1 st in each st along bind-off and cast-on edges and pick up 1 st at the end of every other row alongside edges.
* Pick up and k1 st along Throw Blanket edge and place it on left needle, slip 2 sts on right needle back to left needle, k1, k2tog; rep from * all the way around outer edges of Blanket Throw and only 2 sts remain.

RS = right side
St(s) = stitch(es)
K = knit
K2tog = knit 2 together
Because I knitted the first and last stitch of every row only on the right side and slipped them on the wrong side, I picked one stitch in every “gap”. On the edge where I carried the floats, I made sure I caught the floats inside the border.
The knitted border gives the throw a polished look.

After using a lot of yarn, almost a full ball for the border, the project is finished, and it’s time to test the superwash qualities of the yarn.
I threw it in the washer and started a delicate cycle with warm water and just a few drops of mild liquid detergent. My anxiety was growing with every minute: what if I ruin it, what if it shrinks or felts? I should trust the yarn label!
When I took it out of the washer, I was happy to see that nothing bad happened, but I could not convince myself to tumble dry it, so I laid it flat to dry.
I feel prepared for the cool weather. I’ll brew some tea and get my favorite book handy. I can get warm and cozy during a cold day using my new blanket.
