In my previous post I talked about UNIVERSAL YARN Bamboo Bloom Handpaint and completed the Sprinkle Mittens in the Nami colorway and used a twisted rib and stockinette stitch.
UNIVERSAL YARN Bamboo Bloom Handpaint
It’s time for another small project using the Accordion Cowl and reverse stockinette stitch.

materials
yarn
- 1 skein of UNIVERSAL YARN Bamboo Bloom Handpaint
needles
- US 7 [4.5mm] circular needles 32” or longer
notions
- stitch markers
- tapestry needle
gauge 18 stitches and 26 rows over 4” [10cm] in stockinette stitch
Note: The cowl is knitted in the round, alternating four rounds of stockinette with 4 rounds of reverse stockinette stitch.
Cast on 84 stitches using long tail cast on or your favorite stretchy cast on method.
Join for knitting in the round, careful not to twist the work.
Place a marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Round 1 – 4: Knit.
Round 4 – 8: Purl.
Repeat rounds 1 – 8 to desired length.
Repeat rounds 1 – 4 once more.
Bind off loosely, to allow the fabric to stretch to the same size as the cast on.
Weave in the ends.

This was a quick project that can make a great stocking stuffer.
The cowl is high and snug enough to keep one warm on cold winter days.
The yarn shows its best qualities; the wool content makes it bouncy, and the ridges of the cowl showcase the artistry of alternating thick and thin and matte and shiny.
