‘Bee’ is for Blankie + The Textured Bee Stitch = a pleasant knit

After knitting the flowing texture of Windswept Wrap by Jacqueline Grice last week, let’s stay with beautiful stitch patterns but shift from airy movement to cozy comfort.

If you love projects that are simple, satisfying, and full of thoughtful detail, this one is a joy to knit. ‘Bee’ is for Blankie by Nancy Lekx features the charming Bee Stitch, a simple texture that creates a lovely fabric designed to trap air and help insulate. It is perfect for blankets, and once you get into the rhythm, it becomes wonderfully meditative.

This pattern was featured in ANPTmag Issue 56, which reflects the creative spirit across the needle arts during that season. Issue 56 highlights projects that combine thoughtful technique with beautiful results, inviting you to knit, stitch, and create pieces that feel both personal and practical.

From the website description, the Bee Stitch is simple to knit and creates a textured fabric that traps air and helps insulate, making it ideal for blankets. Here it’s worked in UNIVERSAL YARN Wool Pop, a round multi-ply yarn that is smooth and soft with excellent stitch definition. The bamboo, wool, and polyamide fibers take dye differently, resulting in a subtle heathered effect with a gentle sheen. The Marmalade color in the sample is another nod to the bee and pops beautifully against the neutral Silken Grey. With its two-stitch, four-row repeat, this project is easy to resize, even for beginners, and the math has already been done for you in five different sizes.

If you were to knit this blanket, would you choose warm honey tones like Marmalade or create your own fresh color pairing inspired by nature? What size would you make it?

The back of the Bee Stitch is just as attractive as the front.

What makes this project so exciting is the way a simple stitch repeat transforms into a deeply textured fabric that feels warm, substantial, and full of heart!
