This series of posts has been dedicated to Universal Yarn Uptown DK and using it to make a wreath to welcome visitors at your door.
In my last post, I shared the instructions for an attractive knitted wreath base using Root, a beautiful, retro Christmas green. While it’s pretty enough on its own, there are literally hundreds of options to decorate and personalize the wreath to make a statement about the knitter who lives within.
The Internet is awash with free patterns for knitted stars, snowmen, leaves, and flowers. Use your favorite search engine or social media site to look for images that can make your wreath more than cabled. You can hang your wreath early and pin flowers to it for Veterans’/ Remembrance Day, then change them out to poinsettias for Christmas.
If you want to express more of your creativity, you can cross-craft your wreath with a quilted ornament or ‘hexies,’ sparkly ribbon, or painted wooden figures. An embroiderer might do a simple band of Hardanger to disguise the join on the cable background. The sky truly is the limit!
To make the wreath last longer than the season, make the embellishments removable by sewing strategically placed clips on the decorations so they can be replaced by others. With a little surfing on the Internet, your wreath could become a front door fixture for the whole year, in which case, you may want to make your wreath in a color that will complement your front door, instead of in traditional seasonal colors.
In the next post, I’ll share how to make a beautiful beaded poinsettia for the green wreath, and after that, it will be treated to a family of snowman figures.
Both patterns are designed especially for this series using Universal Yarn Uptown DK, perfect for the job!
